[ THE MYSTICAL ART OF VICTOR BRAUNER ] Victor
Brauner was one of the most interesting people in the Surrealist art
movement. Described by many as a
“painter of premonitions” and a pioneer in several different art movements,
it is a shame that his work is not more widely known

For
a generation of 80s art lovers, Keith Haring's work summed up New York cool. Andy
Warhol, Elton John and David Bowie were collectors of his paintings; Madonna,
Grace Jones, Dennis Hopper and William Burroughs were among his many friends.
In
Dave Eggers's novel, A Heart-Breaking Work Of Staggering Genius, the hero
(Dave Eggers) tells the story of bringing up his little brother following the
double death of their parents. The book slips back and forth between high tragedy

portraiture makes you yawn then you might find alternative art a refreshing
change. From fantasy to horror, there are several sub-categories that fit the
description, "alternative art." |

[ ZEPHYR: URBAN PIONEER
]
Zephyr made his
debut into urban art in 1977, a year often overlooked in any discussion about
the highs of the graffiti movement.
"Graffiti had just passed a climax; the time of the spectacular
writing groups such as The Fabulous Five with Lee was over.” Zephyr explains.
“Less prominent groups appeared on the scene, and trains were cleaned more
thoroughly." |
