[ THE MYSTICAL ART OF VICTOR BRAUNER ]

Victor Brauner was one of the most interesting people in the Surrealist art movement.  Described by many as a “painter of premonitions” and a pioneer in several different art movements, it is a shame that his work is not more widely known

[ THOU SHALT BE A BIT RUDE ]

Dominic Lutyens

For a generation of 80s art lovers, Keith Haring's work summed up New York cool. Andy Warhol, Elton John and David Bowie were collectors of his paintings; Madonna, Grace Jones, Dennis Hopper and William Burroughs were among his many friends.

 [ PERSONALITY CRISIS ]

In Dave Eggers's novel, A Heart-Breaking Work Of Staggering Genius, the hero (Dave Eggers) tells the story of bringing up his little brother following the double death of their parents. The book slips back and forth between high tragedy and whimsy

[ MY UGLY LAUNDRETTE ]

Adrian Searle

You should never mistake art for life. Do not try to make love to sculptures - they don't like it, and it hurts. Do not, whatever some surrealist wag suggested, use a Rembrandt as an ironing board.

[ TECHNO-PERFORMANCE ART ]

The sound of explosions and the sight of fire and smoke in the evening sky drew me closer. "What the hell is going on?" I thought, as I made my way through the crowd of people gathered around some kind of performance. What I saw was a battle between a remotely controlled machine spitting fire and another machine that looked like a small army tank with a huge claw on the front.

[[[[ [ THE TIGER’S EYE ]

Almost everyday I am confronted by people who call themselves ‘artists’. Naturally, this irritates the artist in me. In all of my years, I have known very few people whom I would consider to be true artists.

[ VISIONARY AND UNDERGROUND ART ]
